In Greece, rice is at the top of the pyramid of the most important crops and therefore, efforts are being made to make it more widely known in foreign markets.
Rice is planted in April and May. Harvesting begins at the end of September and ends at the beginning of November. The region of Thessaloniki and the regions of Pella, Imathia and Pieria produce the largest quantities of rice in Greece. This is followed by the counties of Serres, Kavala, Evros, Fthiotida and Aitoloakarnania and small quantities are produced in the counties of Messinia, Thesprotia and Arta. Based on long-standing relationships with producers throughout Greece, Arnaoutelis S.A. ensures the raw material to the quality specifications required.
After the rice is harvested, it is transported to the facilities and dried. The whole process is monitored by our company's specialized, scientific staff and is a key point for the following production process as it contributes to the protection and preparation of the paddy rice for further processing. After the drying process is completed, the paddy rice is stored in silos and regularly checked to ensure its quality.
During the first stage of processing in the rice mill, the paddy rice is first cleaned of various foreign bodies that may be present in the raw material and the husk is removed (husking). This is followed by the milling stage (bleachingstage, during which the husked grains are rubbed together. This removes the bran and bleaches the grains. The rice is then passed through special sieves and the broken grains are removed. Finally, it passes through the colour sorter, to sort out the grains of a different colour from the white one and then packed either in sacks or in large bags. Our modern equipment and our continuous development to new standards and procedures guarantee the quality of our products and the safety of our employees.
After processing in the rice mill, the rice is transferred to the ecological fumigation chambers. Through the EcO2 Controlled Atmosphere Method, the perfect conditions (absence of oxygen and elevated temperature) are created to kill insects at all stages of their development in a natural way without the use of chemicals. The use of highly advanced mechanical equipment and modern electronic systems, without the intervention of the human factor throughout the process, contributes to this. The control is carried out remotely from the Netherlands, where the company that installs the equipment is based.
After the fumigation process, the rice is stored in a suitable place until it is used for packaging/printing of the final products.
The packaging options cover every need, either in bulk form such as big bags and sacks, or in various packages of different sizes, such as Pillow bag, Block Bottom and Stand-up pouch with zip, from 500gr to 5Kg.
Each order is tailored to the specific requirements and specifications indicated by our customers. We have five different types of packaging machines, which allow us to meet every requirement and preference of our customers, ensuring high quality and absolute consistency at every stage of the process.
Our warehouses operate with modern management systems, ensuring the smooth and efficient management of the final product.
